  (DOVER, DE – May 4, 2020) Delaware hospitals received top grades in the recently released Hospital Safety Grade report by the Leapfrog Group. Delaware hospitals received “A” and “B” grades in the Spring 2020 report, and each earned a higher grade than they received in Leapfrog’s Spring 2019 report. 

“Patient safety is job one for Delaware hospitals and health care systems,” said Wayne Smith, President and CEO of the Delaware Healthcare Association. “Delaware hospitals prioritize quality and safety in every step of the health care delivery process. We are pleased that Leapfrog has recognized our commitment to providing safe, high-quality, high-value care to all Delawareans.”  

According to Leapfrog, the Hospital Safety Grades are assigned to over 2,600 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 28 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Some of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade measures include infections, problems with surgery, and practices to prevent errors. This is not the first time Delaware hospitals have been recognized for outstanding quality and safety. In 2019, Delaware was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as ranking #1 in Hospital Quality.
