Delaware Ranks #2 in the Nation for Hospital Quality
According to U.S. News & World Report Rankings
(DOVER, DE – October 31, 2022) The most recent U.S. News & World Report “
Best States Rankings” continued to show positive news for Delaware as a leader in the nation on hospital quality. Delaware is ranked #2 in the nation on Hospital Quality, according to U.S. News and World Report.
“Delaware hospitals are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for each and every Delawarean, and it shows,” said Wayne A. Smith, President and CEO of the Delaware Healthcare Association. “Quality health care delivery is always first and foremost for Delaware’s hospitals and health care delivery systems. They invest in, practice, and assess for quality. Quality improvement is a never-ending mission, and we are incredibly proud of Delaware’s hospitals and the recognition of their efforts to ensure quality patient care, from which every Delawarean benefits.”
Delaware achieved high marks compared to other states in the following categories:
- Delaware ranks #2 for Hospital Quality, a measure of hospital success in performing and treating nine procedures and conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, congestive heart failure, heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/health-care/healthcare-quality).
- Delaware is ranked #14 on the list of the best states for Health Care generally, which is measured based on health care access and affordability, health care quality and health outcomes (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings).
- Delaware is ranked #13 for Health Care Access, which looks at adults and children who go without medical and dental care (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/health-care).
- Delaware is ranked #15 for Health Care Quality, measured based on preventable hospital admissions, Medicare plan ratings, and the quality of nursing homes and hospitals (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/health-care).
