(Dover, DE – October 11, 2022) Today, the Medical Society of Delaware and the Delaware Healthcare Association issued a joint statement urging the public to get their flu vaccines as we enter the 2022-2023 influenza (flu) season:
“Flu season has officially begun in Delaware. Now is the time to get vaccinated against the flu.
Getting your flu shot is the best way to prevent flu-related illnesses, hospitalizations, and even death. Anyone can get the flu, but it can be particularly dangerous for children younger than 5, those 65 and over, pregnant women, and those with chronic underlying medical conditions such as asthma or heart disease. That is why everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine.
Time is of the essence. Fall is here and flu is most common in the fall and winter months, meaning you need to act fast and get your flu shot as soon as possible to give your body time to build immunity before the season gets in full swing. Getting vaccinated against flu is particularly critical this year as we may see a more active flu season than in recent years.
If you are not up to date on your COVID-19 vaccination, you can get the COVID-19 vaccine, including the new bivalent booster, at the same time as your flu shot.

Delaware’s hospitals and medical providers urge everyone to get vaccinated against the flu to keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community protected.”
