On Friday, March 21, 2025, representatives from Delaware hospitals’ medical education programs announced which new physicians have been matched with their hospitals for their physician residency. In total, Delaware health systems are bringing more than 200 new physicians to the state in 2025 with many focusing on primary care. Studies show that most physicians stay in the community where they train, so we see Match Day as a win-win for our healthcare workforce and Delaware overall!
Check out some of the highlights from this year’s Match Day:
Bayhealth – This year, Bayhealth matched with 33 new physicians to join its four programs: emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, and general surgery. These talented individuals will contribute to the ongoing success of Bayhealth’s residency programs, which have provided care for more than 60,000 patients in our communities in the last four years.
Beebe Healthcare – Beebe’s Family Medicine Residency matched with four physicians who had recently finished medical school. Beebe’s residency now has 12 physicians, with four in each of the training years 1, 2, and 3 of their academic curriculum, which is an exciting milestone as the program and faculty grow. The resident physicians will take part in a three-year academic curriculum at Beebe, gaining exposure and hands-on experience in a wide range of clinical areas – from the emergency and operating rooms to countless specialty areas such as OB-GYN, pediatrics, cardiology, ophthalmology, and orthopaedics.
ChristianaCare – ChristianaCare is the largest academic medical center between Baltimore and Philadelphia with a staff of nearly 400 residents and fellows across more than 30 specialties. Matches were awarded to more than 100 medical students this year who will become the program’s newest residents in July.
Nemours Children’s Health – Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware has been matching residents for more than two decades. This year, Nemours will welcome 24 new general pediatric residents, two pediatric neurology residents, two pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation residents and five medical-pediatric residents.
Saint Francis Hospital – Saint Francis Hospital, part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, welcomed six Family Medicine residents on Match Day. The three-year residency program will begin on July 1, 2025, and upon completion, the graduates will become board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
TidalHealth – It was a great MATCH season for TidalHealth’s growing number of residency and fellowship programs. The internal medicine residency will welcome 15 new residents for the upcoming academic year. The anesthesiology and family medicine residencies will each welcome four new residents, while the general surgery and transitional year residencies will welcome six.
