Every spring is a time for reflection and renewal. We welcome baseball’s opening day, windswept pollen (ah-choo!) and flower buds, and warm weather. This April, the Delaware Healthcare Association is asking you to reflect on the ultimate act of generosity and compassion – the gift of life.
DHA is proud to support our member Gift of Life Donor Program in raising awareness of the critical need for more organ donor heroes this month. Hospitals and health systems are essential partners in saving lives through organ donation. They see individuals and families through the best and worst days of their lives, providing hope and healing.
Someone is added to the organ transplant list every eight minutes, and more than 4,000 children and adults in our region need an organ transplant to survive. This month shines a spotlight on how we all can step up to make a difference. The more you know about organ, tissue, and cornea donation, the more you can share with others. Here’s what we’d like to highlight:
- Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race, or medical history.
- It takes less than a minute to sign up to become a donor. Visit donors1.org to register.
- Getting involved is easy. Gift of Life’s digital toolkit will help you with all your communications needs
- You can host a Donate Life flag raising, guest speaker, or information table, post photos on social media and invite local media to cover the event.
- To close out the month, organize a team to walk or run in Gift of Life’s 29th Annual Donor Dash on Sunday, April 26 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
Donors are heroes and this month we recognize their commitment and acknowledge the lives changed. Happy Donate Life Month!
