Penny Short began her career at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in 1983 as a nurse, bringing over 40 years of healthcare experience with a foundation in emergency and critical care medicine. Her expertise led her to become Chief Nursing Officer in 2008 and later Chief Operating Officer for Nanticoke Health Services. Currently, she serves as Senior Vice President of TidalHealth and President of TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford.
Under Ms. Short’s leadership, TidalHealth Nanticoke has achieved national acclaim for its dedication to quality and patient safety. The organization has been awarded the prestigious CMS 5-Star rating for the past two years, earned an “A” grade from Leapfrog, and was previously recognized as a Top 100 Hospital by IBM Watson.
A committed community leader, Ms. Short serves on the Board of Directors for the Delaware Healthcare Association and Sussex County Montessori School. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership. Her achievements have been celebrated with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Delaware Technical and Community College – Owens Campus, recognition as a Top Woman in Business by Delaware Today, and inclusion on the Delaware Business Times 222 list as “One of the Most Impactful Leaders in the First State.”
