(Dover, DE – July 13, 2026) – Delaware Healthcare Association President & CEO Brian Frazee issued the following statement upon the news that Governor Matt Meyer has established an Office of the Surgeon General and appointed Dr. Neil Hockstein as Delaware’s first Surgeon General. The new office, within the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, seeks to provide clear, evidence-based public health guidance while coordinating health priorities across state government, according to the announcement.

“Dr. Neil Hockstein is an invaluable, unrelenting advocate for the health of all Delawareans. As Delaware’s first Surgeon General, he will continue to leave a lasting impression on the First State’s healthcare landscape. Dr. Hockstein’s experience as a nationally recognized clinician, physician leader, and policymaker through the Delaware Health Care Commission will serve him well in this role.
